The most common type of bed in British bedrooms is the divan. There are two main divan types - platform top and sprung edge. The more common of these is platform top, i.e. flat topped; this allows the mattresses to have a firmer feel overall. The second type, sprung edge divan bases, have a layer of springs on the top of the base, which softens the feel of the mattress and adds extra support.
