It's estimated that as much as 70-80% of the population suffers from some kind of back pain - whether it's from their work or an injury, or another reason that they may not be aware of yet. What a lot of people don't know is that helping to reduce back pain can be as simple as changing their mattress. There are four things that those with back pain should remember about back pain and mattresses.

Support

When it comes to back pain and mattresses, the first thing to remember is that the mattress needs to support the heaviest parts of the body where there are natural curves. This means it needs to support the shoulders, the head, and finally the hips. Also remember that you need a good, supportive pillow for your head.

Divan Bases

There's a reason that most mattresses are sold with Sprung Divan Base (Sprung Edge Base) – putting your new mattress on a worn out Divan base will not give the same results as buying the mattress and Divan Base together.

Space

When you are choosing your new mattress to help with back pain, keep in mind that you are going to move around a lot while you are asleep. If you do not sleep alone, think about choosing a mattress that is either King Size or Super king sized. This will give the two of you ample room to move around.

Time

You want to remember that when it comes to back pain and mattresses is that you want to give yourself plenty of time to go looking at the mattresses. You want to have time to lie down on the prospective mattress and see how it feels. If you are not going to be the only person sleeping on that mattress, make sure that your partner goes with you as well so that the mattress you buy is large enough for the two of you.

If you are having back pain, it might be a good idea to buy yourself a new mattress, especially if you have had your current mattress for a long time. You may find that you are getting a better night's sleep and you are waking up with less back pain. Sometimes a good night's sleep is all you need and it can make a world of difference.

You spend about a third of each day in your bed, and when you don't get a good night's sleep or you wake up with pain, you aren't able to function well that day. Making a change to a different mattress may be what you need to do.
